ALCOHOL ADVERTS TO BE BANNED, WHAT A JOKE

There is nothing disappointing than thinking that you know something, whereas you don't. This reminds me of a question that was posed by a Political lecturer in one of the Durban's university, and the question goes: "What is a politician?" Students gave their responses according to their understanding, but the answer I found interesting was of a boy who responded, "A politician is a person who diagnosis a problem incorrect, establish it incorrect and apply remedy incorrect."
This emanates from the suggestion from some members of the Tri-part Alliance who say alcohol adverts must be banned in the media.
Yes, as the ruling party they have potency to ban them, but I do not understand their intention here. If their intention is to deal with the abuse of alcohol, than they must think of something else.
If we harvest in history we find that the ruling party banned tobacco adverts because they thought they contributed in the large number of smokers, but this was not true.
Al though these adverts were banned, but people, especially youth smoke more than ever this is the testimony that thorough research was not done.
Interesting competitions like Rothmans Cup (football) and July Handicap were ended because of the ANC government rulings.
According to my experience, adverts have no direct impact in encouraging people to use alcohol. The sad thing is that these adverts, especially for the public broadcaster contribute a lot in their revenue. Should this suggestion be turned into a bill or rule, the TV licence subscribers will folk out more to cover the costs or government will have to increase the grant to SABC taken from taxpayers.
If you want to curb a problem, you ought to identify the source of it first, then you will be able to deal with it.
Till next time

CREATION OF JOBS CAN SOLVE THE GRANTS’ ISSUE

The tremendous challenge that faces South Africa is very disturbing if one considers the fact that many people have to rely on government’s grant to live.
Nowadays during month end, young, old and people living with disability stand in long queues to receive grants of their respective abilities. If one can ignore the rest and focuses on young people, this is very disappointing and reflects badly on our societies-especially black ones.
Even though the introduction of child support grant didn’t heed the call for young girls to bare babies like nobody’s business, but a lot still needs to be done about this alarming natality rate.
People still need to be educated about rights and responsibilities.  Some young people will say “it’s my right to do this and that” but never talk about responsibilities. Teenage pregnancy always reflects badly on young women or girls, but we turn a blind eye on people who impregnate them-young men. I think we should preach equal words to each and every gender. Should the above things put into practice, the budget for grants will decrease noticeably and that money could be invested in small businesses and in skills development which will not help only individuals but the rest of the country.
The same can be said about RDP houses. Government builds houses for people, but I, for one I don’t like it. The reason for this is because if government can attract good investors so that there will be creation of jobs this can be thrown out of the window and people will build their own houses.
As for agey and people with disability deserved those houses, not just tiny houses but houses that can accommodate the whole family. There is nothing disappointing than a two room RDP house built for a family of six-how do you explain that?
I still believe that creation of jobs and non-corrupt government officials from their head to tail can be a solution and people will not wait for government to do things for them.
